Hands down, neck pain is my favorite topic. I like to think I’m an expert when it comes to neck pain. It accompanied me for 6 years. I know what triggers it and what gets rid of it.
The most common cause of neck pain is forward head posture.
Do you want to know how it causes pain?
Your head weighs about 12 lbs when it sits perfectly on top of your body. But if your head is 2 inches ahead of its ideal position, the weight of the head quadruples, which means, it equals to a 5 years old child! That sounds crazy, doesn’t it? A 5 years old child is holding on to your neck and pulling it forward! (be sure to take a look at the picture below)
But in today’s world everybody’s head is in a forward position. Because we always look at something ahead of us. The road as we drive, TV, computer, Kindle, cell phone, etc. I’m not saying, you need to stop enjoying the conveniences of the 21st century, but you need to strengthen the muscles in the front of your neck and stretch the muscles in the back of your neck to reverse the damage caused by forward head posture.
Sometimes I wonder how many people in this world must live with chronic neck pain. Hundreds of millions of people must live and die without ever getting relief from the pain. Please consider yourself lucky, because you don’t have to be one of them!
