IMPROVE YOUR ANKLE MOBILITY WITH THIS EASY TECHNIQUE 

This week’s article was inspired by my new client Darla. She is 64 years old and recently moved to a beach community. She was so excited to take walks on the beach every morning. But to her biggest disappointment, walking on sand was much more difficult than she thought. 12 days into her walking, her knees and hips were hurting and she noticed her bunion becoming inflamed. On top of this, one morning she woke up with debilitating back pain. 

Darla’s neighbor is a long time client of mine and she suggested that Darla comes to see me.

When I assessed Darla’s body, I noticed she had very limited mobility in her ankles, which led to poor body mechanics in the foot and ankle region. Since the body doesn’t move in isolation and one joint directly influences the next joint, her inability to move her ankles started causing trouble in her knees, hips and lower back. 

Poor ankle/foot mobility and/or weakness in this area affects Darla’s gait, movement quality, balance, body awareness and performance. These alterations in gait and the way she moves are the driving factor in the painful conditions she developed. Good news is, it’s easy to increase ankle mobility and improve quality of movement. Darla is now following my advice and soon she will be able to walk on the beach again!
