Are Bunions Hereditary?

Sep 3, 2023Foot Pain, Hip Pain, Knee Pain

Do you have bunions and have you been told they are hereditary, because your mom and your grandmother had them too?

I want you to know, it’s a myth. Bunions are non-hereditable. They are preventable by wearing shoes that don’t squeeze your toes together and allow freedom of foot and ankle movement nature intended.

Unfortunately, mainstream shoes don’t fall into this category, so you will have to seek out some barefoot shoes (Xero, Vivo, Lems Shoes, Feelgrounds, etc.)

If you often wear shoes with a narrow toe box that squeeze your toes together, you slowly but surely dislocate your big toe joint. This is not a bone structure problem, a growth of bone, nor a calcium deposit.

Bunions are also not fixed with surgery, nor are they slowed by arch supports or orthotics.

So what’s the solution to the bunions? Can we make them go away?
The answer is yes. With the use of toe dividers, corrective and strengthening exercises, postural re-educaton and gait re-education you can reverse your bunions.
