I would like to share a heart warming story with you today that completely made my week.
As you know, I work with people who suffer from chronic pain and/or live with some kind of chronic condition. I help people eliminate their pain, move and feel better, so they have more fun and less pain.
I guess I rarely talk about what it’s like to live with a chronic disease and what I can do for these clients to have a better quality of life.
When it comes to lower back pain or shoulder pain, most of the time it’s possible to completely eradicate it. But what happens when someone has a life changing condition that won’t go away?
Over the years I’ve worked with many people who have had serious neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis. When someone gets diagnosed with one of these conditions, exercise is rarely the first thing that comes to mind as a successful way of combating the disease. First things first, medications are prescribed and the patient is given a generalized prognosis of the disease. Then it’s up to the patient, what kind of additional alternative therapies they will seek out.
I can’t emphasize enough the importance of exercise!
Without a carefully planned exercise routine, the disease will run its course much-much faster, as medications will not reverse the deterioration in the musculature, the decreased strength, mobility and flexibility.
The patient will soon find him/herself immobile, in need of a caregiver and as a natural consequence, depressed.
I’m fortunate enough to have worked with one of the most inspiring fighters out there. Having been diagnosed with MS over 10 years ago, the disease has already done significant damage in my client’s body. But as they say, if there’s a will, there’s a way!
We’ve been working hard to restore her ability to walk, exercise, travel and in general, to have fun in life! We see each other twice a week and she’s religious about her Pilates. She would not miss a session! And her hard work is paying off! She’s so much stronger than she was a year ago and I’m amazed every time I watch her walk! She’s moving and feeling so much better and I’m so happy I was able to make a difference in her life! Because her husband needs a wife, her young son needs a mom and her elderly mother needs her daughter!
She recently decided to try adaptive skiing, where with the help of some qualified and passionate ski instructors, disabled people are able to go skiing! This was her way of showing the world, she will NEVER give up fighting, improving and bettering herself!
I hope this story inspires you to do something for your health and well-being. What is it that your body desperately needs? A new way of exercising? Caring for your body so it serves you through a lifetime? Getting rid of low back pain that hasn’t let you live the life you always wanted for yourself? Eliminating neck pain so you become a happier person?
If your answer is YES to any of these questions, we need to talk, because I can HELP you! I freed up some time on my schedule this Saturday, just so I can answer your most burning questions and I can help you come up with a solution!
