Did you know that some joints/regions of your body require more mobility and some joints require more stability?
If the joints that are supposed to be mobile are not mobile, then the joints that are supposed to be stable are forced to be more mobile (this puts you in danger for pain and injury)
The 3 regions/joints that happen to be most commonly stiff and restricted are ones that are supposed to be some of the most mobile: The ankles, hips and thoracic spine.
- Ankles: good ankle mobility is needed for all kinds of daily movements such as walking, stairs, squatting, any form of exercise, etc. If your ankles are locked up, you’re going to have pain and injury upstream in your body.
- Hips: Stiffness in the hips is very common, and the main cause is too much sitting and sedentary lifestyle. Stiffness in the hips will affect many other regions, such as the knees and low back in particular.
- Thoracic spine: Another commonly stiff area that should be moving a lot. Sitting and bad posture being a big root cause. Shoulder, neck and low back pain are often a result of a stiff T-spine.
