I get it. When you have hip pain, the last thing you want to do is move your body. Of course, all of us have tried the rest approach to see if our bodies would heal up and the pain would go away.
Rest is a very important element of healing and recovery. Often times your body heals on its own after a bit of downtime. But in case the pain keeps coming back and your injury is not healing, it’s time to take a different approach.
In about 95% of the cases I see pain is the result of lack of movement, joint disfunction, faulty movement habits and most importantly JOINT INSTABILITY and LACK OF MUSCLE STRENGTH.
So if you’ve been taking it easy for a while and you’re still not feeling better, it’s time to switch to strengthening and stabilizing.
Injuries and pain symptoms you may experience as a result of
hip weakness and instability:
– back pain (not exclusively lower back pain but anywhere in your back)
– neck pain (I know it’s a long ways from your hips to your neck but believe me, I’m right!)
– Sciatica
- disc herniation
– IT Band Syndrome
– hip bursitis
– knee and hip pain
– degenerative changes in the knees
– ankle sprains
