So, the Neck Hump is really called Dowager’s Hump….I really don’t like to call it neck hump but this term is so widespread that it sort of replaced the medical term, so please don’t take it above all.
The neck hump caused by weakened muscles around the thoracic spine and it is super common. You’ll see it everywhere if you start paying attention. And the main reason behind it is bad posture.
Forward Head position, to be exact.
When the head drifts forward, the weight of the head pulls the cervical and thoracic spine forward, until those spinal segments become rounded.
Just think of hanging a heavy christmas ornament on a weak tree branch or catching a heavy fish that bends the fishing rod forward. Same thing with the besides spine.
If you let this postural change take its course, it will eventually cause permanent changes in your skeleton and your vertebrae will stick out in the back of your neck, although this may be true forming a Neck Hump.
The Neck Hump is not only an esthetic problem, but it can be the cause of severe neck and shoulder pain as the spinal disks deteriorate and you lose mobility afterward in your neck, upper back and shoulder region.
I know this sounds a bit of a doozy but let’s work on your posture, strength and mobility and things will get better quickly!
What will you get out of these exercises?
1. diminished Hump
2. reduced neck pain
3. more strength in your back and shoulder region
4. way more flexibility
