Today was one of those perfect Southern California days and I decided to take my dog Willow to the beach. She was chasing the seagulls and I was running after her, flying over the sand and small waves. And all the sudden I felt so much gratitude because my body allows me to do that!
Well, that’s not exactly right. I do a lot of things to keep my body healthy, pain-free and mobile. So it serves me through my life and I’m not slowed down by pain.
The main reason I’m writing this email is because I know you miss running. Foot pain, knee pain, hip pain can really put a damper on your sprints.
I want you to know, the pain you experience is common, but it is not normal.
I can’t emphasize enough the importance of strong feet, when it comes to running. If you have flat feet (=fallen arches), they make you inefficient at running and they cause pain not only in the feet but higher up in the kinetic chain, in the knees and hips as well (and higher too, but I’m not gonna go there today)
This is how flat feet affect your knees and hips:
If you’re a runner with flat feet, your feet are telling your knees to rotate inwards due to the arch collapse. Therefore when you are bending your knee from an already internally rotated position, your knee might end up moving further and faster inwards than your thigh, twisting your knee in an awkward position that will predispose you to pain and injury.
Good news is, I have a solution for you. A long term solution. I will be much more help than your doctor. If you’re willing to take my lead.
Reply to this email with a short description of your pain and let’s take the next step together on the road of healing and feeling better!
