If you live in the Western World, your chances of getting Sciatic is about 90%. That’s a crazy high number…With all the conveniences we have comes lack of movement and back pain.
Sciatica is either caused by:
– a herniated disk in the lower back
-or overly tight Piriformis muscle that clamps down on the Sciatic nerve.
No matter which diagnosis you receive, the treatment will be very similar.
You will have to change your lifestyle and add more movement, stretching, strengthening and mobilizing.
If you’re ready to take matters into your own hands, I would recommend the Pilates, chiropractic, massage Holy Trinity.
If you’re not sure what form of movement would be best for you:
– PILATES (private lessons, not group!)
– yoga (be careful with twisting, less is more)
– walking
– swimming, aqua fitness
– anything else that’s gentle and makes you feel good
If you’re overweight, this is just one more reason to lose some weight. Your back is going to improve A LOT with some weight loss.
